How big does ball circumference have to get...
« on: February 08, 2009, 05:51:38 PM »
...before it becomes illegal and also before it starts to have an affect, positive or negative, on performance?

I was laying out two balls tonight and realized I couldn't make my Pro-Sect freely move around one of the balls. It wasn't enough where I couldn't move it at all, but it was different than anything I've had before.

Jess,

I don't remember exactly , but check the USBC web pages for the regulations. It's a fairly narrow range, around 27".

How would drilling effect circumference?

Hey Jess,

The more and more you do this (drill that is), the more you will see the variances between pieces.  I've seen so many balls that are slightly off, it is not that uncommon anymore.  You may even see this more like I have with seconds, blems or kmart/walmart type balls.

Not the drilling, just there is no regulations on ball size under playing rules, the ball wont get bigger, but the ball can get smaller, due to sanding/resurfacing, so if a ball manufactured with the minimum size and sanded, it will be smaller than the minimum size, that is why there is no playing rules for that.

This one was a "blem," but not for that reason -- it's a pro CG ball (although if this is what pro CG looks like, I'll be happy to buy more -- the CG was barely too far left).
