Forward and under palm Lateral pitch
« on: April 10, 2005, 03:28:40 AM »
Two years ago after Lucky lefty's advise, I changed my pitch:

1. Reduced my reverse from 3/16 to 1/16
2. Change from 1/8 lateral out to 1/8 under palm.

Ever since my scores has improved dramatically and my callous doesn't hurt as much.

Now I'm at Zero forward/reverse and 1/8 under palm for 4 5/8 span.

Lately I've been dropping the ball quite a bit because I relax my hand more and more during release. From reading the posts here, people are going forward pitch but together with away from palm pitch.

However, I drilled a old ball with zero lateral and 1/8 forward and didn't feel quite comfortable. There is no hang on the thumb on release. The problem is that it didn't promote any turn so I couldn't get the proper side rotation on the ball. I properly got use to 1/8 under palm lateral and my hand seems to turn automatically.

Is it common to have both forward and under palm lateral pitch?

I would like keep my 1/8 under palm lateral and move 1/8 forward. Thanks you for all your responses!!

PS. Big thanks to Lucky Lefty for all the great information. Maybe we lefty have something in common.

You shouldn't listen if someone says "don't put this pitch in".  It's ALL about you personally.  So you've found what works for you, so go with it.  Pitch is all bowler-specific, so if someone says "No no no, I have reverse and lateral out, that's what you need to have" you shouldn't listen to them.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with having any kind of combination of pitches, as long as it works for you.

I've been checking old post and find a message about lateral pitch that is posted by you. You said you've found "amazing difference" from going 1/8 right to 1/8 under palm.

I seach for the misc section and couldn't find you post. Can you share that information again?

Also anyone knows how on this forum, to can see post from last year? I ussd to seeing old posts but once I changed the forum preference, now I can only see post from 120 day old.

Thanks a lot!

Check out this post, our unofficial FAQ.  It has links to see back 1, and 2 years.  Just click the link on there, and just go back to ballreviews in your browser (don't mess with anything after you did it).

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=74110&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

Then, click this following link.  It allows you to search much further back in the system.

And yes, I have posted about getting lateral palm pitch in.  For me it helped, since without it, I was getting blisters on the side of my thumb, and I found that the palm lateral got rid of this problem.  It might have changed my roll but my main purpose was to get rid of pain.  I'm still playing around with forward/reverse to find my most comfortable setting on that, though.  Lateral pitch is just as important forward and reverse, so stick with what works.

Yes, thanks for the nice comments.

If you like your lateral pitch and it fits your anatomy and roll keep using it.

On a 4/5/8 middle finger span one of my favorite pitches is 5/16 left and 1/16 forward.  Bill Taylor after meeting him in person recommends going forward till you hang and then backing off 1/16.

However it is unusual to not be dropping and then all of a sudden start dropping the same set of pitches.

Again anatomy first and then realizing yes with 5/16 left (palm under lateral pitch) one ends up with a lot of side roll and a lower track then if one uses 1/8  under palm  lateral or 0.

Stick with your 1/8 and adjust pitch forward reverse.  But why have you STARTED dropping.
