How to map a polyester ball?
« on: March 06, 2009, 09:27:58 PM »
well, not the usual cg at the center of grip type of drilling which is what my ice storm is drilled as the pin and the cg is just side by side with 5mm of each other.

any other ways to map a polyester?with such close distance between the pin and cg?

i noticed tzones have a very huge distance between pin and cg sometimes the pin could be at the under side of the cg.

most polyester bowling balls do not have a pin. the type of weight block used is a traditional pancake shaped weight block. this weight block is at the outer edges of the ball.....not anywhere near the center of the ball. no pin is needed. the heavy spot or center of gravity is used. on this type of ball the placement of the cg makes little difference in the balls reaction. the polyester coverstock is the dominating factor in the balls reaction.

You can drill a plastic ball with the Pin/CG 3 3/8 inches from your PAP to increase any flare that the ball might have. At the Plastic Ball Competition with the PBA the other week thats is what all the players did with their equipment.

On Edit:

With regards to plastic balls, the CG usually lies right ontop of the weight block inside of the ball. The Brunswick T-Zones have a filler pin at the bottom of the ball (other side of the CG) so do not confuse that with a Pin from a regular performance ball, as that is not what it is. With plastic balls, just worry about the CG for the most part. If you put it 3 3/8 inches from your PAP it will generate the MAXIMUM amount of flare that the ball has potential for.
