How is my Action drilled?
« on: December 10, 2006, 07:07:09 AM »
Here's a link for the lay-out.  Do you think it would flare more if a X-hole was added?

Thanks!

WHat is your PAP? (tilt, rotation and ball speed are also helpful. There's nothing in your profile.)

Are you left or right handed?

If you're a lefty (you're pointing to the left side where I assume you want the weight hole), then why did you put the pin  under the middle finger?
That maximizes length and minimizes flare to a large degree.

Which Action is this?

IN GENERAL -

1. Weight holes on the PAP will make a ball flare earlier & more than balls without a weight hole.

2. WT holes beyond the PAP and 3" below the PAP will make it flare more than a WT hole on the PAP.

3. Wt holes inside the PAP or above the PAP will reduce the flare.

I'm right handed.  I'm not sure what my PAP is, I'll try and figure that out.

The pointing was my daughter holding the ball while I took the picture.

Ball speed is about 16mph, a little above average rev's.

It's the original Columbia Action.  http://www.columbia300.com/gear/balls.cfm?bid=194

I wanted something that would roll earlier in oil and have a decent backend.

If there's enough side weight, you can always put a weight hole in it.

However, wanting more flare doesn't say what you really need/want. More flare will normally make it hook EARLIER, as well as more overall.

So, is that what you want OR maybe more backend?

If you want more overall hook, then the first thing to try is to roughen the surface slightly with a nylon pad, like a green 600 grit one. Surfaces are easier to change a few times than weight holes, which may need to be replugged, if they don't work out.

I'm wanting an earlier hook/overall hook, not so much a more backend hook.  Something aimed more towards oil..

I agree with charlest.  Start with the green pad and if it still doesn't hook early enough, try the maroon one.  --  JohnP
