Ring finger relief
« on: August 06, 2005, 03:45:11 AM »
I have a sore arthritic ring finger from too many years of bowling. I have tried using more reverse but didn't really notice much difference. I drilled a ball with the sarge easter grip & I could not feel strain on finger, however, because of my delivery style, I guess, I lost revs & power. Is there anything short of using that drilling that might be helpfull? All replies are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I had tendonidest(sp?)
in my ring finger about 3 or 4 years ago. Check profile as i have a different kind of grip because of an industrial accident.
Anyway i have 1" reverse on my ring finger(we also shortened the span) and it has not hurt my game at all. This is what i and my driller came up with because of flexibility issues.
Good luck

I've seen guys with just plain shortening the ring to eliminate pain, maybe 1/4 of an inch or so.

I tried the Sarge Easter, trying to take pressure off of the 1st joint of my ring finger. Using the Sarge Easter grip, I hurt the 2nd joint on my ring finger...Had it examined and X-rayed. Doctor said I had damaged the joint and should not bowl for 3-6 months. This happened 2 weeks ago.
I bought a Track Animal, and had the ring shortened 3/16", lateral changed from 1/2 left (I'm a lefty), to 1/8 left. I went to 3/8 reverse on the finger...I probably could have gone 1/2 reverse.

I'm bowling without any pain on mt 1st joint (now), but the 2nd joint was pretty inflexible.
I had read an article in "Bowling this Month" about using Ginger Root in a compress, I did a search and found some more info, on ginger root...and its healing properties. I've used for the past 3 nights, on my ring and middle finger. It's pretty amazing, I regained quite a bit of flexibility in the joints, pain will disappear for about 6 hours. It comes back but to a lesser degree.

if anyone is interested I'll dig up the web site...and instructions on how to make and use the Ginger root. It has worked on pain in my knee, and wrist also.

Please do Duke, I could use something for my wrist and I have a friend who has horrible knee pain after bowling. If you could dig up this Ginger root for me, I'd appreciate it.

This is the web site that I found the information on: http://home.iae.nl/users/lightnet/health/messages/ginger.html

There is also an article (non-drug approaches for bowling-related injuries) in the March BTM magazine, on Page 16.

I bought about 10 ginger roots, and put them in a food processor, rather than grating...Hand grating, took a long time, the grater clogged with fiber.
I separated the ginger into 2-3 inch balls, put them into freezer bags, and froze them. They keep very well.

Follow the instructions on the web site . . . or

Make sure you have heavy-duty rubber glover to handle the towels and ginger!
The water has to be pretty HOT for the remedy to work!

Fill a pot with approx. a gallon of water, put a ball of the ginger into a large linen handkerchief. Tie a length of string around the 4 corners of the hanky to tie the corners together. When the water starts boiling shut the heat off. Put the handkerchief into the pot, with the end of the string hanging outside. Put a cover over the pot, let it steep for 5 minutes. PUT ON YOUR GLOVES! Put 2 towels inside the pot. Let them soak, remove one towel, wring the excess water out of the towel, and apply it on the painful / stiff area. You mat need a partner to help with this. Make sure you do not burn your skin...The water has to be pretty hot, but make sure you don't burn your skin. If your skin hurts or turns bright red, stop immediately. Use common sense.

I accidentally found a remedy for my finger and toe joints, by using the handkerchief itself, full of the ginger root....I am not religious, but I would have to say the outcome after applying the ginger to my finger joints (which were almost frozen (unbendable), was close to miraculous...after 10 minutes my fingers were pain free and were moveable. DO NOT USE GINGER COMPRESSES ON BLISTERED OR OPEN WOUNDS, SORES. ALSO, SEE A PHYSICIAN, AND HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSIS OF YOUR PERSONAL CONDITION.

Hope this helps...Just be careful with the hot water.

Thanks for all of your replies. Thanks Duke, got your message & will try the ginger root treatment. I just got a ball drilled today with 3/16 shorter span & 1/4 more reverse in ring finger. Haven't tried it yet, but will this coming week. Thanks again!
