New ball/New drill
« on: September 13, 2006, 03:16:07 AM »
I just received a Storm Pyro (nib) I got a good deal on, and now just need to get it drilled. I'm not sure how the offsets work and unfamiliar on the terminology so hoping to get some input. Little background, I'm a lefty, avr speed around 15, not a hardcore stroker but decent spin, bowling on semi oily lanes, avr game 180 and improving. Hope this helps.

GCS..most all the ball manufactures have a drilling info sheet on their web sites. They also have some added info that will help you determine the type of ball reaction that you may be looking for. Some good ones off the top of my head are Brunswick, Ebonite, and LaneMasters. Also you can go to the reviews that have been written on your ball, and what the reviewers have found that works with the drillings that they applied. Read all of that, then get an idea what you think you would like and then go have a talk with your driller,..if possible, and he's not familiar with your game, have him watch you bowl a game or so,...by then he should come up withs what best for you if he's any good..je

It has been my experience that a good starting point would be to put the pin slightly above and left of your ring finger and then put the cg just a little left of stacked (meaning the cg will be further to the left of the ball than the pin).

This layout tends to work for most people on most conditions. It will create decent length (due to the pin location) and have a smoother transition from skid to hook (due to the cg placement) and thus will be more controllable and readable for most bowlers on most conditions.

If you need anything else feel free to drop me an email and I'd be more than happy to help you out.
