Hello all I was looking for some suggestions on what layout to put on my primal rage....
my stats
cranker
17.5mph speed
500revs
45-50*rotation
tilt I'm not 100% sure since my release has changed a bit
pap was checked at 4 9/16> 1/4^

I really like the look devaney has in his video, so I was thinking 5.5pin to pap 5cg to pap which would put the pin above my middle finger and the cg on the midline... Any other suggestions ... Looking for length with a strong continous turn on back

I never liked that layout that Devaney uses, but it's a decent look.
I've been thinking about the Redball for a while, and my idea was to put the pin beneath my ring (through it, actually. I'm a sarge easter user), and kick the CG out a little to the right.
Out stats are similar, and I think that would be an awesome layout for this ball.

I'd simply put your favorite layout on it. The primal is a great ball (i'm a new Motiv user) and that was the first ball I drilled. Mine is laid out pin over bridge (that puts it 4.5 from my PAP) CG kicked slightly, no hole. This ball is great, gets down the lane and has a strong continuous motion thru the pins. I am also really liking the Venom Toxin to fit underneath the Primal, which gives me a nice 1-2 punch. I'm going to pick up another Primal and go with a pin down drilling and maybe hit the surface a little. All in all the make a great product.

Wherever you decide to put the pin, I would suggest moving the CG a little towards your PAP. This will give you the opportunity to add a balance hole to fine tune your reaction if the original reaction isn't exactly what you wanted.

The Primal Rage has a strong cover on a pretty strong core. As long as you understand that going in you will be fine. Just don't try to make the ball something it isn't. I say this because if you have 500 rpms and only 17.5 mph speed, you may have trouble using this on some conditions. The 5.5" pin-PAP may reduce the overall strength enough to make it more usable.

Just be sure to check with your ball driller to make sure.

I was going to go with one of my old fav layouts which is pin under middle finger cg out 45*.... But I wanna drill it right the first time ya know..

If you have had success with that drill, then no reason to think it won't have a high chance of being successful for you this time. The angle for the CG is just to add weight to that side to give you more choices in balance hole sizes and positions. Being a symmetrical ball, the "PSA" or "MB" of the ball will be at the thumb hole irregardless of where the CG is until you add a balance hole.

The only concern I would have is having a pin-down ball and a long pin-CG distance. That may limit your choices a little. But your ball driller should be able to make that determination. Perhaps some of the ball drillers here can chime in on this also.

I don't like going much longer than a 5 inch pin to pap, just because no matter your rev rate or overall power, balls seem to get a little lazy and sensitive to backend carrydown past 5, even with as strong on the back as that ball is. But like spmc said, don't try to make the ball something it's not. If you're using a layout to tame down the backend on a big backend ball, that sounds a little counterproductive to me. That said though, you're familiar with your game, and honestly that layout doesn't sound bad at all. Just a few things to think about, but if it works out fine, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I think you've got it figured out.

yeah,I mean I have had good luck picking layouts ... And I was really wanting to try the pin under middle finger cg out,but don't want a funky reaction, the last ball I had that layout on was a c system 2.5 and I shot my first 600 series with it ... It would put the pin almost right at 5" if its under my ring ... So it will prob be a decision I'll have to think hard on cause its either gonna be the pin up over with cg right of centerline,or the pin under mid with cg prob in same area right of midline just lower about 2"

As silly, unscientific, and shot in the dark as this sounds...

Since its not an ebi ball...so no blueprint..

Wouldn't it be cool to see what layout (s) you could line up preserving the inner core? Thats the first thing I want I thought of when I saw the primal impulse. I understand you still put holes in the ball, skewing the numbers...etc

But is it possible to put the thumb inline with that opening and basically not touching the core? Thats what mo is looking he is trying to achieve with most of his recent core designs.

Most of you guys probably can probably answer this:

Does preserving the core do anything special or does it just keep the numbers closer to stock?

Its gotta do something cool if Mo is doin it!

Ended up going 50x5x35 with a small P1(9/16 x 1 1/2 hole to make it legal) haven't rolled it yet but I'll get some time on the lanes today after work and post results

hyme29, hope that works for you, but I have one question. What is the reason for adding a P1 hole before you throw the ball? I realize you needed to make the ball statically legal, but why not wait till you throw it first (in practice of course)? That way you can see what type of reaction change, if any, is needed before adding the hole. A P1 hole will reduce the overall dynamics of the drilled ball, perhaps even making it more skid/flip. The amount of excess side weight you had in the ball wouldn't have affected the motion. But after trying the ball, if you wanted it stronger, weaker or the same, you could have made it so. The only downside is the extra time needed to fine tune the reaction. But to me it is worth the effort.

Just a thought for the next time.

well I did roll it after drilling at the house where my driller drills out of , and the lanes there are synthetic,where as my every week league is wood ...so I loved the reaction i had but know id need a bit more push at my home house .... I should of put that... I meant to say I haven't rolled at my league alley yet...going to do that today
