This is probably a dumb question for most of you but i am pretty new to bowling so please don't get mad at me for asking. But i do you get a proper span when you plug a thumb hole and re drill it. how do you measure it? And do you add the radius of the drill bit to the span to make it correct. I guess what i am asking is HOw do you measure where to drill the thumbhole and also where to you start the drill bit. Sorry for the dumb question. If someone could enlighten me that would be great.

bigfish -- The spans are measured "cut to cut", or from the leading edge of the thumbhole to the nearest edge of each finger hole. The driller will mark the location of the front and one side of the thumbhole with a grease pencil or scribe, then set the drill bit so that the edge of the bit matches up with these two lines. The location of the front of the hole is set by the two finger spans, and the side is set by the desired center line. The correct pitches will be set into the ball holding jig. -- JohnP
