how to measure PAP
« on: July 31, 2003, 08:27:22 PM »
OK, I can find my PAP with tape. but my question is how to measure.

5-1/4 pap 1/4" down means that the pap is located from grip centerline over and then down?

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. I would like to know how to find and measure my PAP.

Omega, yes I beleive you are right with how you are reading your coordinates. 5 1/4" from center of grip, 1/4" down from that.

If I put tape on my ball, how do I know where my PAP is? Will the tape be facing directly back at me after I throw the ball??

How am I supposed to knock all 10 down with one ball?!?

I just can back from my ball driller.

he measured from a centerline based on the middle finger.

Rock,
For tap placement, place the tape on the opposite side of the grip from your ball track. guess as to the axis point and keep adjusting until you see the tape stand still.

do this on a low flaring ball.

Low flaring, eh. That may be kind of tough. Would a plastic ball work?

Yes. Perfectly.
The measurement is from the dead center of the grip, with the ball placed such that the finger holes are at 12:00 and the thumb hole is at 6:00. Right hander's PAP is to the right; lefthander's is to the left.
Dead center of grip: draw line from exactly between the fingers to the center of the thumb hole. The measure exactly halfway between the edge of the holes.
From that point measure over X" over. Mark that point.
If your PAP is up or down, measure along a line parallel to the line between fingers and thumb; go up or down the appropriate amount.

So basically, I will take my plastic ball and put a piece of tape somewhere along the horizontal axis through the center of my grip and then move up or down accordingly until I throw the ball and see the tape rotating on a single plane the whole way?!?

Theoretically, yes. Practically speaking, you might even see the plastic ball wobble a little, 2/3 - 3/4 of the way down. The important part is from when you let it go until about the arrows.
