I just drew a blank
« on: September 25, 2004, 12:26:51 AM »
Im having a brain fart about something....

In the thumb, when you have forward, it means the thumb is going towards the centerline, or core. Now when we talk about fingers, does forward mean the finger holes go forward away from the centerline? Or is forward pitch ALWAYS the same(as in forward always means it towards the centerline). Im pretty sure forward always means the same thing, but I just thought about it like that, and it kinda confused me.

I was taught that reverse thumb is towards grip center, reverse finger was away from grip center, forward thumb was away from grip center, and forward finger was towards grip center.

That's always what I thought....

Sorry guys, I was talking in reference to the bottom of the hole.  Basically what they said.

jeremyo316 is absolutely right.  Forward pitch for both thumb and fingers is toward the grip center.  Reverse is away from the grip center.  --  JohnP

Oh really?? I thought what I said was right, GUESS NOT! lol. Here all this time I thought I needed reverse in the fingers! (Good thing i never actually got it changed)

Let me get this straight.........so, if I had stiff fingers, I would get forward finger pitch?  and if they were really flexible I'd go reverse?

no, stiff gets reverse, flexible gets forward IN GENERAL. however, length of span and other variables also play into this. remember, towards grip center, forward, away from grip center, reverse.

Stanski you contradicted what you agreed with. If you have stiff fingers, you want the holes angled more at the grip center, wich is forward, correct?

No, with stiff finger joints, the finger holes need to be angled away from the grip center to allow the fingers to enter their holes more easily and without forcing them to bend beyond their limit.  --  JohnP

exactly, also known as reverse pitch. Remember though, these are GENERAL tips, not everyone is the same. however in GENERAL, stiff fingers get reverse (away from grip center), flexible get forward (towards grip center). BK, i think your confused on what part of the hole we are talking about being angled. For reverse, the top of the hole is closer to grip center, bottom is farther opposite grip center. For forward, bottom is towards grip center, top is towards opposite grip center. Just think of it this way, finger "lifts" if you have ever seen them on grips create forward pitch.
