Reation Arc 1 1/2" pin drilling suggestions
« on: September 17, 2004, 08:34:26 AM »
I bought a used Reaction Arc with a 1 1/2" pin.  It was drilled straight over the label, pin and CG stacked. Now its plugged.  I'm wondering what might be a good layout for heavy oil.  The house where I bowl league always starts out very oily, but opens up a little by the end of the night.  I have a high track 1/4" from fingers, 3/4" from thumb. I bowl thumbless most of the time, have above average speed and plenty of revs.  I do not throw with excessive side roll.  The ball is going to need to roll very early and have some good backend as well.  My Carbide LRG works OK second and third game (although it still doesn't hook much).  I will be having the ball drilled with a thumbhole in it.

Thanks for any advice,
sprocket

Well, since no one responded I had it drilled with the pin and cg kicked right a little.  It ended up with 1/4 oz thumb weight and 11/16 oz side.  I haven't thrown it yet.  It's sanded to an 800 finish.

Update:
The ball rolls over the finger holes.  The bowtie is at the bottom part of the middle finger hole and the track flares over the holes.  Now it is getting plugged again and the holes will be moved down enough to get the track off the holes.  I did throw 15 out of 16 strikes with it, but I didn't really like the way it reacted.  It burned up real quick and would rollout on a wide shot.  It didn't have any snap at all on the backend.  I'm having it polished to at least 1500.
Question:  Should my ball driller have known the ball was going to flare over the finger holes?  I really don't like having to plug it again.

sprocket -- Any time you lay a ball out for a high 3/4 tracker the pin should be kept on the safe side of the line between the PAP and MF hole.  --  JohnP

JohnP,
Since this is a "pin in" ball does moving the pin up cause problems because it also moves the CG up?  Will it end up with excessive finger weight?
Also, I'm not sure where my PAP is.  I have a 4 3/4" span and my track starts right next the the middle finger and is about 1/2" from the thumb. When someone says they have a 6" PAP what does that mean?  6" relative to what?
John, when you say "on the safe side of the line between the PAP and middle finger" what exactly do you mean?

Thanks,
sprocket
