I need every possible full roller layout
« on: August 15, 2006, 03:18:03 PM »
Im in need of every layout possible for a full roller.  Its for a teammate and I need to try to get him some options.  He has all his from 1 1/2 to 3 3/8 inches from midline/cg down at the 7:30 position.  I also know of the one that pin is 3 3/8" from the PAP.

There is one other layout other than that, that produces the most hook/backend for a full roller I have seen. When I get to the shop Ill scan it and put the link up for it later on today (if I can find it).

There definitely are other full roller layouts available...  My teammate is a F.R. and I have drilled up several ones for him.  Probably the layout he has had the most success with comes from an AMF layout sheet I had found.  It starts with a pin out ball (3"-5" pin to cg distance) and medium low top weight.  The pin is placed approximately 10 1/8" from the center of grip at a 2:00 to 2:30 position (basically it is 6 3/4" to the PAP and then another 3 3/8" beyond the PAP to create a leverage pin position).  A weight hole is used 1/2 way between the pin and cg to get legal static weights.

See page 9 of: AMF Ball Drilling Techniques.

I put this on a Triton Elite, Icon 2, and most recently a Titan for him and he's had great luck with all of them.  For some reason (suspect because its leverage with a weight hole), this layout seems to REALLY roll well.

I have played around with a couple other layouts that I sort of "dreamt up," with varying degrees of success.  One that seemed to roll alright (and gave a TON of backend reaction) was a Killer Instinct Pearl.  Here is an old post I made about this layout:
quote:

I drew a line from the pin, through the mass bias and marked the mid point of this (3 3/8 from either). I drew a line 90 degrees to the pin/mb line, through the mid point, measuring 3 3/8" to either side. I marked one side of this line as the axis and the other side of the line as the center of grip. A line 45 degrees to the line ending at the center of grip would be the grip line and a line 90 degrees to the line ending at the center of grip would represent the initial ball track of a full-roller. I layed the ball out based upon the center of grip and grip line... the pin ended up roughly on the midline. The cg of the ball was located above and left of the ring finger (lefty layout), and the mass bias was located above and between the fingers. Due to the cg location, I drilled the ring finger hole extra deep, the middle finger hole just deep enough to fit an insert into it, and the thumb hole as shallow as possible. The ball ended with 1.5oz pos side and 1.5oz finger and just under 1oz top. I placed a weight hole at the far end of the line running from the center of grip through the mid point of the pin/mb line at 6 3/4" from the center of grip (on the axis).

So basically this layout was an upside down stacked layout parallel to his initial ball track and at 45 degrees to the grip line.  The ball doesn't seem to roll over any of the holes.

Good luck,
