Question for all us drilling guys?
« on: August 26, 2003, 12:05:41 AM »
This may sound crazy but which truely has the effect on the ball motion.
"The STATIC IMBALANCE OR THE CORE SHAPE AFTER THE HOLE."
let's say i need to remove 1.5 ounces of postive side on two balls that are exactly the same. On the first ball we remove the weight pitching the hole an
1 1/8 away from center of grip and on the second ball we pitch it at zero at 3" deep which will the stronger effect?

The static imbalance has more of an effect. The dynamics you take out of the core by hitting it 3" deep is neglegable, as compared to the effects of 1 oz. side weight vs. 1 oz. neg. weight. =:^D

King, what about the starting CG's to PAP..? Do both balls have identical ending weights, side, finger, and top..? =:^D

If the starting CG's differ, then the core angle is different. Especially in a symmetrical core ball. So, if the core angle's are different, then the reaction will be different, even if the ending CG is the same. C'mon King, you know this. =:^D

wouldn't ending cg overide a balance hole?
Yes, the ending CG overrides the x-hole.
quote:
same pin to pap. same ending cg.
same ending preferred spin axis. same coverstock and surface prep. but.... different amounts of time from axis to psa on a free spinner.
and evidently (deep holes) different core shapes.
quote:
shouldn't the balls roll the same?
You left out the core angle/starting CG.

King, if you had 2 balls drilled identical, pin, CG, core positions ect...Both balls have holes drilled on axis. One hole is deep and 1 hole is shallow, will the balls react the same..? What will be the difference in reaction if there is one..? =:^D
