I need some suggestions to help my ball reaction...
« on: May 20, 2008, 01:47:57 PM »
Hi there everyone, I did some major research on some of my balls tonight. Some of the things I noticed is very interesting to look into. I am going to give a list of my arsenal below before I say anything else...

Counter Strike Partical Pearl= This ball has the pin located an inch or two above my two fingers. My PAP on this ball is 3 11/16 over and 3/4 up. This pin placement is 4 inches to my PAP.

Terminator Rebellion= This pin is located at a 2 oclock position to my ring finger perhaps and inch or so. My PAP on this ball is 3 1/2 over and 5/8 up. This pin placement is 2 1/2 inches from my PAP.

World Class reactive= This ball has the pin in the same location as the Rebellion. My PAP on this ball is 3 1/2 over and 5/8 up. This pin placement is 2 7/16 inches from my PAP.

Sure Strike= This ball has the pin above my ring finger. My PAP is 3 1/8 and 1/2 up. This pin placement is 3 7/8 inches from my PAP.

Black Pearl= This ball was my last ball drilled and I placed the pin a couple inches below my middle finger. My PAP on this one is 4 1/2 over and 5/8 up. This ball has a pin placement of 5 1/8 inches to my PAP.

As some of you guys know, some of these balls is useless to me(pin locations of less 4 inches). I am kinda struggling with ball reactions and need some of you guys to help me out here... I am thinking that I need all new layouts on my balls. The only ball I have that really rolls amazing is the Black Pearl of course. Would it be a good idea for me to not drill any more stuff with the pin placement less than say 4 1/2 inches and keep all of these balls in case I need a different ball reaction? If so, I will have some of the craziest looking layouts and people will thank I am crazy. I think I am simply going to have to put the pins on my balls even left of my middle finger if i want to keep the pins close to my fingers... Have I got all this right?

I know I have a strange PAP location and that is why I am asking for some help here... Do I need to just experiment with layouts or do I need to change the way I roll the ball and perhaps see if I can maintain a different PAP location?

Also I have been told in the past that your PAP never changes... Its just the way the ball rolls off your hand. Well I proved tonight that different layouts can cause a huge difference in where your PAP can be located. Some had said its never that much off to know a difference but here obviously the Black Pearl was an INCH off vs. the other balls..........

Are the pitches in the finger/thumb holes the same? The different PAP measurements based on each ball would indicate that the black pearl is being released differently. The key is to find out why your release is different. Span/pitch changes between balls may be one reason. Are you getting a smoother release on the pearl causing more of a roll than a spin of the ball?
Just some food for thought.

Actually they were rolled the same... As you noticed the Sure Strike was off as well as the first few balls mentioned. I didnt just throw one or two shots with these balls I threw a few with them after finding the PAP. I think the flare differences between the balls dictates where the PAP will be located.

The reason why I done this test is because I noticed my flare on the black pearl was much closer to my middle finger vs. the other balls. It appeared to be off an inch or so. I done the research and yup my PAP was approximately an inch off.

Pap changes from ball to ball, it has alot to do with core strength all of them are pretty close pretty much a spinner track.

Which tells me that you probably circle the ball greatly and that would be the reason why the pap migrates from ball to ball. Release being different from shot to shot would slightly change the pap.

I have a Cobalt Pearl that looks like a spinner track, ended up the grip was way off and I was not clearing the ball well. Fixed the grip problem now it is inline with my other stuff.

The black Pearl is pretty high differential ball which would mean the most flare of the group.

That is my take and I am not drilling expert but you pmed me to help you out and it's the least i can do for you.

I think Luckylefty could help out more than me, he is much better at these questions than me. JohnP and the lane 1 gang the T_God would also be helpful as would Brunsnick.
