Is it true that the span and pitches of the thumb / fingers differs when a person is using a wrister and not using the wrister?

Yes, you might want to think somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch shorter

Sometimes,depending on the model.Always get fitted with it on if you are going to use it.
