Hi. Bumping this to the top for you so the heavy weights can answer. I know the answer is yes, but when I asked the same question there were varying opinions on how much, and most of the answers were in units of furlongs per fortnight....  :)

Define reverse in fingers.  To me 5/8 reverse is toward the thumb.  In todays game where you don't want to lift on the ball, what are you trying to accomplish????

reverse pitch is away from your palm. (away from your thumb/center of grip)

forward pitch is towards your palm. (toward your thumb/center of grip)

So Pitch toward the thumb would be forward pitch.

Maybe my pitch gauges are defective, they read exactly the opposite of this?

That or your just using the gauge backwards.

Holes pitched toward the center of the grip are forward, pitched away is reverse.

That is completely counter intuitive, either way, I only drill for myself so I guess it doesn't really matter! Thanks for the post. Good info from you as always.

I usually just tell the driller away on the fingers, meaning away from the palm.  I do use forward and reverse terminology for the thumb since everyone seems to agree.  Turning to your original question, I did not change span when I went from 1/4 to1/2 away on fingers
Just a matter of personal preference

What about left and right on the thumb? For me as a left hander, right is away from center. It's looking at the ball from the top, yes?

Whether your right handed or left handed, left lateral is left and right lateral is right.

I hate to sound dense, but to clarify... For a left hander, looking down from the top of the ball at your layout, right lateral = away from center,  Yes?

Looking down on the ball, fingers up and thumb down - a hole slanted top to bottom to the left has left pitch and slanted top to bottom to the right has right pitch.  The hand you bowl with makes no difference.  --  JohnP

Lateral pitch refers to the direction either right or left from the center of the ball.
Which hand you use doesn't matter.
