Title: Increasing revs thru span/pitch
Post by: lefty50 on February 07, 2005, 02:12:21 AM
After 18 months fighting a perception of decreasing revs, I read the FAQ on BR that indicates rev issues can be created/resolved with span and pitch changes. It's "suddenly" occurred to me that my decrease in revs may be from shortening span a long time ago to resolve finger pain. I've been pain free for the last year, but the decreased revs and long skid cause a different type of pain, namely a lower avg (from 215 to 195).
Perhaps I should try increasing span or changing pitch just a bit to reach a happy medium....
Thoughts on which way I should take the research would be appreciated.

dbowler, move ur pointer finger in next to ur middle ringer and keep ur pinky finger out and ull stay much more behind the ball.

Maybe so, but we're back in the lefty vs righty territory now. I don't want to get into that discussion, but what needs to be tamed on the right doesn't apply to the left. I think Benoit's comment on the insiders site for PBIII says it all. "Not enough useable friction on the left for Parker to get this reaction...." I can see lowering revs on the right, but that's not going to help in my case. I can always tune down, but get locked out in heavier oil.

Good call Chitown. I've tried it, and it does have an effect, albeit a bit minimal n my case. Good thought though....

lefty50,

May I ask which finger was that?  I have pain at the lower part of my ring finger (near where the finger meets my hand), and has been wondering whether shortening my span is the way to go?!?

Thanks

Charlie, for me it was both fingers, mostly ring though. Too much damage from cracking my knuckles for too many years. I have to admit that shortening fixed it. It took a bit of time to get used to the shorter length and adjust pitches to match, but I definitely have been pain free for a long time now.

Adding 1/8 Forward to the fingers and 1/8 reverse to the thumb will get the RPMs up.

This is a good tip I learned from Mo Pinel.  The opposite will also work to decrease your RPM potential.
