Title: is it bad that i preffer longer span?
Post by: APheLion on December 31, 2006, 10:45:07 AM
since i tried the sarge easter grip i like to lower my ring finger distance to my thumb, almost 4 (cant remember exactly) and my middle finger is just 4 from cut to cut.

However, now i tried my friends balls, who has a longer span which i dont really have to squeeze the ball, i have a very compact game and low backswing. The outcome is that i get more revs and accuracy is not that bad, it took me around 5 shots to get it right. Since his thumb hole is big i had not troubles getting the thumb out. There was no pain or anything after 2 games with those balls.

my question is, should i try to drill a ball with longer span than mine? the balls that are drilled with span 4 and almost 4 still have plenty of space. How bad is a streched ball with a big thumb hole? will it hurt my hand?

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one

This guy on youtube posts videos of the PBA
for ppl who dont watch TV or want to save the matches this will be great!

I know someone who pulled tendons in his hand from doing that, he couldnt bowl for a month, and couldnt rev up the ball for two months after he came back.

I NEVER suggest anyone use a span as long for them as i do.  My span is just over 5" & a normal relaxed span for me is slightly over 4 -3/4

The reason some people can get away with longer spans than others seems to have a lot to do with flexibility.  Most people cant put their fingers in the ball & have their 2nd knuckles actually touch the ball(or be REALLY close), i can.

I say if u like the longer span, give it a try, but the first sign of any pain...go to the shorter span again.  What we sometimes percieve as comfort can be just something different that we THINK feels better.  When in reality, its just a change, & once u get used to it, u may hate it.
