IT changing pitch without plugging
« on: February 13, 2010, 02:53:56 AM »
All my balls have IT's installed at 3/8" reverse.  I want to go to 1/16" reverse  can I drill a new slug in the IT jig ball and change the pitch so I end up with 1/16" reverse? that would save the expense of plugging and redrilling 5 balls and installing new IT's

depending on your thumb hole size and what size IT your using it can be done.  ive done it, but only to change to pitch a hair.

I have changed pitches up to 1/4 successfully BUT.... that was the plan from the start and used the 1 3/8 for a thumb 61/64 ovaled .060 @ 40*. If your original IT is 1 1/4 I would think that it would be CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE to change the pitch 5/16 UNLESS you really drill the hole short!!!

You would have to drill the new slug with a 5/16 forward pitch depending on the size you would probably go thru the side wall of the slug about 1 1/2-1 3/4 down.

yes I know its not the right thing to do and I know it will cut into the side of the slug just wondering if anyone has tried this with success. I have 1 1/4" slugs 61/64" hole ovaled .060 @ 45 degrees. I will give it a try by setting the ball jig at .312 forward and starting the cut alittle back of slug center.. I would never do this for a customers ball stormbowler83

You still want to drill the 1st hole at 0-0 (maybe a 13/16) so you can set the locking piece flush and then drill with the new pitch

You also most likely would not be able to put the safety molly in the bottom of the slug with that much change
