Jaros Layout

I'm curious about the layout on the T Road Solid seen here:  http://www.stormbowling.com/img/misc/13A.jpg

Most of the pin axis stuff I've seen have the pin and cg in the neighborhood of the PAP.  What would the motion be on this layout be?

That wouldn't be a pin-axis layout for anyone except Mike Fagan's evil twin.  It's a high pin with the CG kicked right.  I don't know what Steve Jaros' PAP is, but if he's like most pros, it's probably in the 5" range.  That'd put the pin about 5" from PAP, which is also pretty typical for a lot of pros.

On a dull ball like that, it should help to keep it from reading too early with the surface acting to smooth out the reaction on the backend.  Again, that sounds pretty typical for a lot of pros.

Steve Jaros - 15lbs.
PAP = 5 7/8" x 1/8" up
T-ROAD SOLID - box finish
pin - 6" from PAP
cg - 1 1/2" from PAP
extra hole - from center of grip thru the cg @ 4"

Definately a length drill.

I know good distance from pin to pap but that thing looked earlier than the Special agent...rough surface?  CGdomaddah?

Ball was early and even...

You can put the pin 9" from PAP.  At 800 grit it's still going to grab earlier than a 3 3/8" pin to PAP at 2500 grit.

At 9" pin-to-PAP, you're better off measuring pin-to-NAP.  Just be prepared for goofy flare.

Exactly.  The T-Road Solid was at 1000 grit, while the Special Agent was at 2000.  With the heads drying up, the T-Road was hooking a little earlier than the Special, but the drill pattern and the different core let the ball continue a little better and gave him a bit more control.

Where did you see the surface prep Dan.  (I do appreciate it).

DP3....I understand and agree with your points.  It just that my eyes told me that ball was earlier and gave him a little more swing area than the Special aqt that time.

As I mused...maybe it was surface and I guess it was.

I'm surprised more continuation with that weighthole(inside his PAP)?

I really like the Troad solid reaction.....neat.

Maybe a good idea for our flying backends?.....oily midlanes league??

Longer Pin to Pap  for less flare and surface for carrydown and less hop off the dry. Sorry LL it looked like much more lope to me. Talking with tour guys they really seem to see much more vertical movement of oil where most House bowlers whether wall or not see more horizontal issues with oil.

On the "In the Bag" link I posted earlier in this thread from Storm (http://www.stormbowling.com/bowling-news/story.asp?enewsid=2437&intl=False) it notes that both the Special Agent and T-Road Solid were left at their box finishes.

I must review tape because to me it looked like he went deeper...swung wider(NO?) and went high flush with the T Road Solid.
