In BTM,

I just noticed this article and don't know if it had been discussed out here.

One looks like pin on PAP, the other looks like pin in thumb but CG way out, just guesses.  One with almost no flare the other with flare later.

Not seen it. Most recommend not going under 1.5" pin to pap due to possible flare issues. Not seen any layouts with the pin in the thumb. I'm just guessing you have to worry about the flare and if it brings the bow tie down where it can catch the thumb. Cg location is only relavent to x-hole location for most people.

Drilled a few with the pin on the pap. Its a "what you put in is what you get out" type of layout. Mostly recommend this for high rev guys who can hit a target or really slower speeds. Misses are not rewarded.

Pin near or in the thumb does weird stuff to the flare. Im not too versed in it but it's really condition specific. I saw TJ Trout selling a lot of those types of layouts on fb. I can imagine youll have a great deal of success with it bowling the everyday tourneys or ths.

Pin in the thumb is another one of those layouts that is very dependent on the customer's specs.  The flare is going to be reversed, moving toward the thumb and away from the fingers, like a full roller layout.  For a high tilt, low track customer that will probably be OK, and if his PAP is located 3 - 4" away from the thumb hole it might be a good layout.  For a customer with low tilt and a PAP 5 1/2" over and 1 1/2" up  it will likely be a disaster.  --  JohnP

This is honestly similar to layouts in ball boxes...they're generalized as a cure all and 9 times out of 10 they are NEVER needed...bowlers wanna think that a layout similar to a bowling ball will fix an ailment

But it is way cooler if you can say I have the ball drilled on the LSL layout or the SLL layout. 60 x 5 x 40 is soooooo 2008.
