drilling a ball with a 4-5 in pin

OK, just curious if a ball with this long of a pin will work for me. I have a pretty small span (4 1/8) and I normally always put my pin above the ring finger with the cg out so in my mind a longer pin like this won't be that big of a deal..

If I did a pin under ring, I could see where a long pin would be an issue..

Any comments on this??

In another post about "Pro Pin" balls, Steve Kloempken wrote that putting the pin above the fingers with the CG or Mass Bias swung toward the PAP and a large weight hole works well.  Does anyone know of other layouts that are successful with these balls?

It might depend on the top weight of the ball. You might end up with a lot of thumb weight and would have to use a deep thumb hole taking alot of the core out because of where the cg would end up in the thumb quadrant or have a weight hole. But it is do able just not desired by some people. I would lay it out the way I wanted and then weigh it out before you drill it to see what you were looking at in statics. I realy dont see any cause for concern though it just depends on your preference and the box spec's of the ball.

I know of one very good bowler who regularly tries to get 4-5" and 5-6" pins. He places the pin way above the bridge (3" or more), sometimes above and slightly to the right of the ring finger, and usually places the CG in or around the grip center. He had medium-high to higher rev rate and gets lots of length from most balls.
