Label Leverage ?
« on: June 29, 2003, 08:19:13 PM »
3 3/8 x 5 or cg in the middle of grip, MB in the track area.....right ?

I know most of you hate these type of questions, but is there a good condition for this drill, i.e.; mediums, med-lights, etc ?  OR, is there a type of ball this works best for , pearls, solids, partilces, particle pearls ??

I'm thinking medium conditions, pin location is giving you flare thus good midlane, but MB location is maintaining axis and providing some length with a strong but controlled arc on the back.

I've never put any pin a 3 3/8's ...just wondering what it would be like considering the MB location ?

Guru's ??  OR, does anyone have a label leverage drill...if so, what ball, results, etc, etc, etc,.....please tell!

Right handed, med speed, med revs, high tracking tweener......

thanks!

thanks Dave, that helps cuz I was thinking about putting that on a particle pearl ball here soon....for a house shot with screaming backends, oiled right before league....mediums....hmmmmmmmm, thanks!

Anything from 2.75" to 4" pin to PAP distance can be strong depending on the core's dynamics.

You knew I'd say this,, but the answer is .... it depends.
On the oil pattern AND the bowler's release & speed AND ball's cover's coefficient of friction - how skiddable is it? These days any of the above 4 types of balls can have a gloss finish, a matte finish or a dull finish. It's the finish that makes the bigger difference than the actual composition, in my opinion.

I'm thinking medium conditions, pin location is giving you flare thus good midlane, but MB location is maintaining axis and providing some length with a strong but controlled arc on the back.

Whether the arc is strong or not depends on the core's RG differential (potential flare) and the oil and the release & speed (plus a few other factors).
Example #1: a dull ball on not enough oil will have less backend arc than a polished ball on the same condition.
Example #2: a Dull ball on heavier oil will have more backend arc than a polished ball. (Then you can start with a Dull ball with high RG diff/more flare vs dull ball with low RG diff/less flare.)

If you drilled your SS with the pin at 3.375" vs its current 4", theory says it will begin flaring slightly earlier and hook slightly more, as long as it doesn't burn up too early. This would make it more of a control ball and less of a backend ball, producing more of a curve and less of an arc. It runs the slight danger of not being as usable across as many conditions.

Asymmetrical 2.55 .056 particle pearl (specs on the ball I'm considering doing this to)

So based upon what you said, and the specs of the ball...it would be a longer ball than the SS based upon core numbers and cover, but have a strong but controlled backend.  The ball is supposed to have a big backend to begin with, so maybe I'm on to something here!!  thanks as always charlest...

Jeff,

With that much RG DIff on the Pure Fuel PLUS Roto-Grips's apparent tendency to flare a LOT more than their specs indicate, to make the PF a controlled backend, I wonder if a 4" x 6" might not be better or even a 4"x 6.5" ????

As suggested, let other experiment first and see what they say about the PF.

ORRRRR

you could go the other way: get a 3-4" pin, put the pin at 4" and just above the level of the ring finger (for a pin over bridge effect: more length) and put the Mass Bias just to the right of the thumb hole. I'd bet that ball will FLIP! and the lane had better be wide open.

So way over in the track for the MB then ?

thanks charlest, but I'm NOT going to put the MB in the strong position on a pearl particle ball!! No way!  On my Fuel is one thing ( solid particle sheen) but not on a pearlized cover!

Just suggesting a alternative for the "flip" side ...

Plus40,

So let's say you have 2 medium condition balls, one strong solid drilled 4x5 say, and the particle pearl drilled label leverage, they would complement eachother ?

I tend to get sharper backends on a lot of my stuff so keep that in mind!!

But I have and have had several label leverage balls.

Pin to left of ring finger and and cg kicked under ring!

REsults:

Demolition zone, can you say flip and open the lane up!
Often playing right near 4th arrow, fairly deep for a lefty!

Impact zone can you say flip!?  Could be played outside but could cut the heart right out of the pins if 1 board high!  Sexy lady!

Shock Zone pretty flippy for a particle but more rounded than above!

Beast solid, smooth and easy does it.

Spirit smooth playing straight up the 10 board!

My conclusion:
Core has a lot to do with it.  Also these drillings have a tendancy if you get inside to leave a lot of corners for me except for the Demolition Zone.

If swung more gently few corners!
Also those that put the mass bias right in the thumb are flippier than those with the mass bias over in my track!

I have to agree with LuckyLefty on the corner pins from inside. I had a Warrior drilled Label leverage and as long as I was only swinging it out about 6-8 boards I was fine. Anything more than that and I was shooting ten pins all night. Now my V2 drilled 4x3 allowed me to play inside more. But I also have very high ball speed so the label drill didn't like to turn the corner very well for me. The Warrior did work much better for me on fresh patterns playing the oil line during the winter. For me personally, the cg out type drills work better because of the earlier roll. Just my .02.
