lateral thumb pitch and ball track

I've been tinkering with thumb pitches lately.  I originally had 1/8 palm, but I wastn't getting out of the ball clean.  So, I tried 1/8 away and my ball track moved up too high (tracking over the fingers and thumb).  Note: I all ready had a very, very high track to begin with.  So, I tried so new pitches in my thumb this weekend.  I tried 1/2 palm in one ball and 9/16 in another ball.  The ball comes off my hand fine, but my ball track still nicks the thumb.  Is it ok to add more lateral than this?  According to the coke bottle test, my thumb points toward the outside of my pinky.  I know that my problem is an elbow that I can't keep close to my body.  Would more pitch help or do I need to look else where for solutions?  I've grown very tired of topping the ball and getting thump, thump, thump... down the lane.

Just as a quick guess I think you problem is in your arm.  Elbow out from the body results in chicken winging and topping the ball.  Straighten the swing out and then see if you still have the problem.

From my latest experiments with thumb pitches, the lateral pitch effects my axis rotation more than the tilt. The more under palm the pitch, the more axis rotation I have. Your thump thump problem sounds to me like a span that is  to long or to much reverse in the thumb. The results of either of these would be a death grip on the ball and might cause the trouble.

The more that I work on lowering my track the higher it goes.  Today during practice, my track was running over my ring finger and on the wrong side of my thumb.  I am totally confused.  My proshop guy calls this an inverted full roller track.  How are some possible ways to lower my track: technique, drilling, ect.

I don't know what an inverted full roller track is. The only way to get your track to 3/4 type roll is with proper thumb timing. Sounds like you are holding on to the ball to long. You might try using a light house ball and just using your fingers only. That might help you find the feel for the timing you need.
Unless there is a major fit problem with the drilling changing your track is very difficult for most people.

I had that happen a blueberry to me. although the reaction was execellent and the hit was good. it only happen on the blueberry. two reason for that I was over turning the ball at that time and the pin was in my track and cg in palm.

because of overturning the ball, or coming around it to much is a better description, I had many ball hit the fingers. I normally have a an inverted track. which is closer to the fingers than the thumb.1/4" for the fingers and 1/2" from the thumb.

Your problem is mechanical. the pitches are making you think about it when you bowl so the effect of the pitches is more dramatic. I would say get a Bowling coach to help you out. first get some good fitting pitches and get the release in order. then move pitches around to fine tune your game.

I guess that is the answer. The fit is important. pitches can fine tune your game but can not fix mechanical problems. That assumes that you have a decent fit to start with.

Your #1 problem here is your release.  I agree about getting the coach and not just some pro shop guy either.  They have clinics all across the country which sounds like it would be very beneficial for you.  Otherwise go with some certified coaches if they are in your area.  Don't focus to hard on your pitches.  Worry more about getting someone to start working with your game.  You are trying to fix the problem by skipping over some steps.  Yes you have to have a good fit before you can do anything.  Maybe try another ball driller and have him give you a grip analysis.  Sometimes the only way to go is to find someone with some different thinking as far as fitting your hand.  After the ball feels good in your hand then have someone retrain you and how you come out of the ball.  All of these things work together to make your game; fit, armswing, timing, release and then aresnal.
