lateral thumb pitch question...
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:55:10 AM »
Ok so I have changed my release over the past year and really love the pain free feeling in my arm... I still get great revolutions and speed ... Now here is the question my thumb pitch was 1/16reverse and 1/8 left ... My new driller has refit my hand and now I'm at 3/8rev and he kept the 1/8 left, I will say the fit in the ball feels 100% better... Especially in the fingers. The Thumb feels great until I release the ball, I feel my changed release needs opposite lateral in my thumb to finally get the clean release I'm looking for ... I'm just asking for opinions on lateral in the thumb, is it by the books for a fit or does the release play a part in the final lateral in the thumb? Thanks everyone.

What's in the books might not give you the right feel , I'd go with whatever feels good for you since all of our hands are different.

Myself I've changed thumb pitch a couple of times without changing the span as the books says you should.  No problem there.

Now my thumb is drilled 0 (I use GripLoc) and I've got two inserts , one is 1/16 left and the other 1/8 left and I'm a righty.

I went for what felt good to me and not what's in the books and haven't regretted it at all.    :)

Your hand dictates what the angles should be...not a book. You say it 100% better but then you say it doesn't feel right at the release...that contradictory. What doesn't feel right?

because the fit feels fine resting in my hand...but when I go through the motion the thumb is getting hung up ...

It depends on where it's hanging up...you may needed added reverse or lateral to speed up the release...

Things to consider...what all was changed...pitch only? span...etc. if you changed reverse primarily and you're not able to 'get around it' you may cut down the reverse to stay in it a bit longer...you have to make small changes to know how to gauge the next move.

the only things that were kept the same from my old span was the middle finger span and lateral thumb(1/8left)

So it becomes difficult to nail down the change, but how much did you increase the ring finger span in comparison to the reverse?
It sounds like the reverse needs to be decreased...

So you decreased the span yet increased the reverse? That's why you're losing the ball through the release...decrease the reverse

3/ right?!  Where did that come from?  That is a dramatic change from a drill that was almost working.
