Picked up a Levrg Response for pennies and looking for layout suggestions for the USBC tournament. I'm slightly speed dominant, and track somewhat high. PAP is 5 1/2 right by 3/4 up. Ball speed borders the 20mph mark with a rev rate around 325. Ball in question has a four inch pin out and a little over two ounces of top. I will be bowling on fresh conditions for the entire USBC tournament and would prefer to stay somewhat direct. Suggestions are welcome as I haven't drilled to many Morich pieces. I am familiar with the dual angle layout techniques and gradient line weight holes.

Your still the layout guru so I can't say much there. But what I can say is that it is MUCH weaker than advertised based on the 2 people I've seen throw it. Since you said suggestions are welcome though, I'll go ahead and put my 2 cents in. If the pin distance and top weight allow, for you, I'd go 30* by 5" by 80* to keep it under the fingers and a rolly MB position to read the midlane. You'd need a hole on the MB to even out the statics which would provide even more midlane read.
No matter what you choose, I'd put the pin 1/2" closer to PAP than usual and keep the MB angle low.

Jared thanks for the two cents.... I went with my gut on it and have one hell of a ball. Punched it 30x3 3/8x30 with a p3 hole pitched away from the center of grip. This thing is a beast in it's 4000 grit box finish, so I'm thinking of knocking it down to 1000 for Vegas. I actually have a second one on the way that I picked up for a song that I will likely double thumb. Ebay has had some dirt cheap sales on recently discontinued stuff lately so I've been taking chances on balls I normally wouldn't drill for myself.

Wow I love the sport of bowling but you all were talking about with these layouts was totally foreign to me. I almost thought you all were not talking in english....lol. Now not to take away from either of you but it seems that you all know a lot about layouts. I was about to purchase a ball with a negative layout on it. Is this layout a good layout for lighter oil and is it legal at the USBC tournament?

Assuming it is a USBC approved ball and that all static weights are within the legal limits, it will be legal at the USBC tournament. Have the statics checked before you go. As to whether the layout will perform well for you on light oil, that depends on a lot of things. First, what ball are you talking about. Is it designed for light oil? How do you throw the ball, rev rate, speed, PAP location, axis tilt and rotation. How skillful are you, can you change your release when needed? Can you play various angles to the pocket? If you have a good pro shop operator he will be able to give you a better analysis of how the ball will work for you than we ever can. Good luck -- JohnP
