weak drill
« on: December 30, 2007, 05:29:36 AM »
Lately our house has been very dry. my neptune is even too
strong. Generally speaking, what would be considered the
weakest drill. My low speed and high revs is forcing me
to go to my xxxl (which is a great ball).

thanks,
Phil

If you are on a condition where the ball will not clear the front part of the lane (example: late shift league)  you can drill another Neptune with the pin farther from your PAP, or you can learn to create more tilt which will help the ball skid.  But if the condition you are talking about is fresh and it is just really short, you can drill something with the pin closer to your pap 1 to 2" preferably, this will make the ball read the friction slower and will be much smoother.

phil,

I have seen two bowling friends use a Neptune with radically different drills. They resulted in radically different ball reactions, almost as if they were throwing 2 different balls. The Neptune seems to react that way.

If I were you I'd try a longer and higher pin position, somewhere over the bridge area, depending on your PAP, putting the pin around 5", 5.5" or even 6" from the PAP, again, depending on exactly how high your rev rate is.

Also, you can try some surface modifications before re-drilling: sanding to 2000 grit and then to 4000 grit and then re-applying a good dose of polish to get back that high gloss shine. Standard finish is 1500 grit polish. Taht will add length to the ball.

Thanks JM and Charlest,

I think I'll try the 4000 grit and polish first.
