Just wondering what the general consensus is when bowling on the burn/ double burn
♦pin up or pin down
♦long pin to pap vs short pin to pap
♦polished/ sanded

also the same for shorter patterns/ could you use the same ball for the burn that you use for short patterns?

not putting too much emphasis on a layout though

my guess would be pin down to have a smoother roll and not flippy off the dry, short pint to pap? to have more of a rolly look bc bowlers look at a lane from front to back motion not left to right and sanded so its not hard off the dry

For the burn I like something like a Hy-Road Pearl 5"x40 that I can get deep with. For a short pattern I would not use that ball. I would want something more like an IQ Tour Solid maybe 4"x50. That's just a small snippet of what types of pieces and layouts I would personally use.

In general I want clean, long, quick response to get inside the burn. Smooth slow response for short.

Hmm, I seen a fair share of idols going down lane on the burn/ double burn at the masters on xtra frame. Would that just have been because of the way the masters was playing on the burn?

Short and burn are 2 different things. For short, I like lower diff and lots of surface to get a readable reaction off the end of the pattern. In my current bag, I'd go with an X.

Burn (like getting left of 5th arrow with lots of friction to the right), I'd go very long pin to pap (5.5+) and use a tall core to create tumble. Closest ball in my bag is a Drift. Enough flare to not hit weak but clears the fronts extremely well.

Haha yea I knew short and burn r way different, just noticed those r the 2 conditions I struggle with the most so I was looking at options for either

Short, you have to slow down the response to friction. Burn, if you can left of it, you need a faster response to friction, but not so much that it's unreadable. One of the best balls I've ever had for burn (and being able to get left of it) was my AMF Fire Hawk. 5.75*70. Lots of push, enough cover to not be squirty, and the core tipped enough to make the turn.

This year's Masters guys had to keep moving inside as there was OOB to the outside. The pattern was 39 ft so you had to control the backend

For short, I recommend a shorter pin to PAP and surface. Get the bal to use up energy in the fronts to be slow enough off the friction.
