Layout help
« on: October 30, 2014, 04:05:49 AM »
Hi guys, I bought a Storm Crux recently and drilled it at 50 x 4.5 x 70. However, when I throw at the same line as my Storm Byte drilled 4"x4"x2" which is probably around 40 x 4 x 35, the Crux hooks lesser than the Byte.

I thought that the Crux drilling layout is for earlier roll with a stonger coverstock but why does it hook lesser than a Byte which is pearl ball and weaker coverstock?

I was thinking of redrilling a new layout with 40 or 50 x 4 x 20 with P3 hole for a longer and angular reaction instead of a early roll layout.

I have a pap of 4 3/4 and 1 5/16^.

Monitor screen speed: 13mph
Mid Track
Rev rate: Probably around 200
Rotation: Around 45
Lane Condition: THS

Can any experts here help me? Thank you!

Obviously the Byte is hooking more because there is not enough oil for the crux. It's burning up. Try polishing the crux. If you strengthen the layout, which is what you would be doing it will get worse. Do you know your specs? Tilt? Rotation? Speed? revs?  What kind of condition to you bowl on?

I'm not sure for some of them. Speed on monitor screen shows around 13mph, rotation should be around 45 degree, rev will be low-mid probably 200+, bowling on THS.

But if I try to move in deeper, the ball wont hit the pocket as well maybe due to my low rev rate.

Slow speed will make ball read very early. Very strong cover stock and slow speed on ths usually means no hook. With the slow speed and minimal revs Id guess you are probably playing the track where there is less oil and more friction. Try Polish....I think redrilling to have a shorter hook phase (20) and P3 to increase flare will probably make this ball hook in your backswing...that ball will hit the lane and turn over instantly....THS always has a defined dry spot but can very in volume and length...the Crux is a STRONG ball.....may not fit the condition....Trust me you are not the only one out there that see's this issue...it happens with every new Super Oiler Hook monster released. To give you an idea, I bowl on some heavier conditions, bought a Hyper Cell and it still burned up. I had a P3 and had to plug it and put in a P1 for me to use it on my heavier conditions....

Always remember weaker balls hook more on less oil.....

The Crux is surprisingly early. Like it has been said, try a smoother surface. Take it up in grit, start 1k then go 2k and then 3k if you need to go 4k after testing it. If it's still too early add polish.

Hmm... as I was planning to have a layout to play deeper angles as my Byte is used for playing at the 2nd arrow, maybe I could change the Crux to a skid/snap layout instead?

Do I have to start from using abralon pad from 1k to 4k or can I just use 4k straight? What difference will there be?

Is start with applying Polish over the box surface and then go from there. If you need more length smooth the surface under less rough it up
