I'm not 100% sure this ball will work.  One of the requirements of a RICO is that you use a weight hole 6 3/4" from the pin, through the cg (or at least close), sufficiently large enough to alter core dynamics (giving the benefits of a RICO layout..i.e. more asymmetry in the core, raise the bowtie, etc).  With a very short pin, I'm unsure whether or not you would be able to use a large enough weight hole (and remain legal with statics), to see any of the benefits.  I think I remember reading a minimum of a 1" hole 2.5" deep???  From the charts, this would remove ~ 1.6 oz. of weight...

My instincts tell me that Strapper is dead on with his analysis of the situation. Balls that I have drilled Rico have always had at least a 2" pin. I would think the ball might end up with too much finger weight to be legal, but you might be able to take care of that by drilling the fingers deep.

if it helps the ball is a 14lb NIB rhino pro purple. its to be used when i go out of town and places where i dont want to take my lane masters / legends stuff to keep it from tearing up.

I would think if you keep the pin around an inch of grip center you should be okay - weight wise.  Probably a good control drill.

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you.  I have a Heist with a 0" pin and similar top weight, and have no idea what I'm going to do with it.  I've had shorter pins placed under fingers and close to grip center, and they tend to clip finger/thumb holes.  I have a Track Slash (1.5" pin) drilled RICO and don't have any problems with clipping holes.

Like others have said, with the short pin, you might have a problem with the x-hole.

For RICO, Ric told me that he generally recommends pin distances around 1/2 of ring finger span.

quote:
To me, optimum specs are:

Half the distance of your ring finger

Top weight 2.7-3.2OZ

The longer the pin, the larger necessary hole and less variance. The shorter the pin the less variance with size and depth of hole.
The same goes for the top weight, higher-larger and the lower-less.

thanks for the input. i definitly want it was a control ball. i dont know i'll have a good long talk with my driller and try to figure it out. i just like knowing what i want before i go in so i dont waste his time or by wasting a ball just making a rash decision.

I put the RICO drill on an Original Inferno Remake with a 1/2" pin and about 2.5 OZ of Top Weight Definately not what I asked for, but thats what I get for ordering online.

My ball driller buried(drilled really deep) the middle finger which in turn allowed him to drill the weight hole 6 3/4" through the Pin and CG.  So it can be done, but you are going to have a huge Weight hole but it didn't alter my ball reaction at all.  Hope this helped some.

One other thing about putting RICO on High RG balls.  I put it on a sonic x pearl sometime back and boy was it nice.  It had a nice hard roll to the pocket vs. the skid/flip nature the specs and pearl coverstock suggested, so I would say try it out!

its hard to find a drilling that worked for me and was consistant. the rico just happend to be what best fit my game. for me its a weaker layout really. i had to world class reactives. with almost the same specs and every just drilled differently. one was drilled leverage label which i thought would be control. it definitaly wasnt. i would skid arc and snap like someone kicked it. way out of control for me. i even drilled a full ounce out of the side on my PAP. still didnt get what i was looking for. gave up on the ball and traded it. got anouther one last week. drilled it rico and havent put it down. amazing drilling for my style. i have 5 or 6 differnt balls drilled this way and love them. the reason i dont do low rg stuff is cuz they rev up too much and go crazy at the breakpoint. my two favorite balls of all time where higher rg balls (riot zone & contact zone). i dont know alot about all the technical stuff of layouts and all that, i just know what works for me. i have tried just ALOT of differnt drillings and rico works best for me

oh yea, my driller drilled my pro rhino purple with the in alittle right of but still in the palm. ball works great. didnt require i weight hole. just smooth, predictable roll. the hit of this ball is great too for it being so "old"
