I believe for the most part pin buffers just helps you control where you pin is going to end up.  If you want a pin high I would think you use a shorter pin buffer and if you want pin low you use a longer pin buffer.  This is just what I have presumed from the few things I have read about pin buffers.  Hope that helps.

It's a certain distance from where you drill to the pin's location. The Storm Shift is utilizing it on the drill sheet, but it's not really new, just never advertised.

Pin buffer is Storm's term for the distance from the pin to the vertical axis line.  Go to the Storm website and access a drilling sheet for one of their newer balls and the affects of various pin buffers will be analyzed.  --  JohnP

The pin buffer refers to the pin-vertical axis line measurement. Basically the smaller the measurement,(with the same pin-PAP distance) the more length you will get.(and the higher the pin will be). You dont want to get it too small,(under 1") or a minor mistake in axis measurement or change in release can end in a ball that reverse flares.
