I'm trying to get an idea of where most of you guys have your lateral pitch on your thumb.

What is your lateral thumb pitch?

I'm only surprised as to the number of left lateral righties on this board.

I believe the general population has many more lateral rights out of a given group than say even 60%.

Just had a friend of the womanly persuasion who is just learning a hook with her 1/4 right conventional pick up a well fitting fingertip with 1/8 left lateral.  (AS we well know womans arm and muscle structure TEND to be dramatically different from men's).  With this left lateral she couldn't throw a hook with the fingertip to save her life!

I have seen many a wonderful bowler try to go left lateral pitch and end up unhappy with the change.( I have also noted that those with very relaxed spans can seem to accomodate this change better than the real "full span" fingertip people).

LAnguage clarification.

For a righty....Left lateral = "Away"= Translation...away from the palm
For a righty....right lateral = "under" Translation ....under the palm.

Hope that helps.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS left lateral encourages staying behind the ball and tends to raise the track.
Right lateral encourages the hand going around the ball and increases tend to slightly lower the track.  (note all definitions are for the larger group of bowlers called "righties"(Translation = right handed bowlers)

I guess I'm in "the club" - zero.

If I do the "Coke bottle test," my thumb lines up exactly with my middle finger, hence zero lateral.

I believe the terms in relation to anatomy ie OUT and UNDER were so that lefties and righties could talk to each other.

As we all know....that is not necessary.

From the post above we know we can just all go LEFT! Regardless of hand!

RIGHT?

In addition...I believe the lineup with the middle finger actually calls for 1/8 right for a RIGHTY.

It is between the index and middle which calls for 0....for both types of handed bowlers....ie right.....left.

1/8 by 1/4 or 1/4 by 1/8 (I forget) but it is away from my palm.

Yes, LL is correct and my recollection is wrong.  It's been a while since I have done the actual "Coke bottle test."  In the shop, I use a plastic cylinder that is specifically designed for measuring lateral pitch, and when I wrap my hand around that, it yields zero lateral thumb pitch.

Sorry for the misstatement.
