what reaction difference would there be between a 5x3 to a 3x5?

5x3 will have length and make a arc, 3x5 will give maximum flare, with a angular backend. Of course the ball alters this, but this is what generally happens.

From my expeirence, a 105-135 will give length and angle, then again thats just me, my whole theory.
