Pitch change from 0 to forward
« on: May 19, 2007, 11:13:50 AM »
I took the CATS class in Reno and MJ suggested I go from 0 pitch in my fingers to 3/4 forward. Any feelings on how the ball will feel and come off from all the drillers out there?

Are you sure he said 3/4 forward ? With that much pitch you are going to be lofting the ball over the foul line.

I am pretty sure he said forward. He said with my pitch at 0 I was grabbing the ball and squeezing it. He wanted my fingers away so isn't that forward?

NO. Forward would make you grab it more.

On the fingers, 3/4 forward would most likely give you a lot of pain in a short period of time, if you are even able to throw it at all.

And - away in the fingers is reverse, I believe.  I dont usually go by the relative terms "away" or the like.

ON EDIT - I could see if he meant 3/4 REVERSE, if your finger tips hardly bend at all, but besides that I am lost.

Forward pitch in the finger holes will cause the fingers to remain in the holes longer and lift with greater force. Also, the more forward pitch the more the ball weight shifts to the fingers. Conversely, the more reverse pitch on the fingers, the more weight of the ball will shift to the thumb.

I found the above from a search on line. I guess this will answer any questions for pitch.

So I guess he meant for me to change to reverse in my fingers and not forward.

Thanks for the responses.

I have reverse pitch in my fingers, and in my thumb. I have much more contact on the ball with my palm now, then when i had 0 pitch. And its much easier to get a clean relaese.

I use 0 in my fingers now and 1/16 reverse in my thumb. I took the CATS class in Reno and Mike Jasnau said I was squeezing the ball to much. I also have a bowlers thumb that I didnt use to have. So I guess going to fingers away 3/4 will give me more contact and less squeeze.

Its never to late to try and learn with bowling
