CG 1" above midline
« on: July 22, 2004, 04:07:42 AM »
I have a new Phenom Unleashed that has a 3" pin and 2¾ oz of top weight the drill pattern that I want to use will end up putting the CG 1" above the midline. This puts it inline between grip center and my PAP.

What I was wondering is do you think that I would be able to remove the finger weight just by drilling the fingers a bit deeper? Or would I have to drill them to deep.

All this is assuming the CG is marked correctly which I will check.

I would prefer to be able to do this, so I can have the balance hole straight over 5 1/2" which would be 1¼" below my PAP

If curious the drilling:
Pin 3 1/4" above midline on bridge line about 4 3/4" from PAP
MB 2 1/2" below midline and 3 3/4" right of bridge line about 4" from PAP

Stormin1 -- It might actually be legal without doing anything.  If you want high finger weight, weigh it before you make any adjustments.  If you want to be safe, drill the finger holes about 1/2 inch deeper than normal.  --  JohnP

Actually I want no finger weight.
Do you think it can be done with the CG 1" above the midline?

Stormin1 -- Yes, it can be done.  After initial drilling, you will probably end up with about 1 oz of finger weight.  Your ball driller will have a chart that gives estimates of weight taken out for various sizes of holes per inch of depth.  If you use finger inserts, each finger hole will be 31/32 diameter, or very close to 1 inch.  Go to the chart and figure how much deeper than normal to drill the holes.  I don't have my chart at home with me, but I'm guessing about 1/2 to 3/4 inch extra per hole.  If you want to end up with exactly 0 finger weight, I would start out drilling the holes a little less deep than the chart calls for, then weigh the ball (stick the inserts in the holes) and drill deeper if required.  If you just want to get close to 0, drill to the estimated depth the first time.  Good luck  --  JohnP
