So i just got a new pro sect 1/4 scale and wanted to start massing around with different layouts on a ball for some practice. Is there any things i can do to get comfortable laying out balls or any tips i should know? I would like to be able to layout my own balls then have my proshop guy just drill off my markings.

On that website they claim they mark the mass bias (MB) location on the ball, if it isn't already marked. The MB is always marked at 6 3/4" from the pin, through the center of gravity (CG.)
I see at least 2 errors just in those 2 sentences!!

Without a determinator it is the best way to make an educated guess. Besides most symmetrical balls don't spin up fast enough for the degree system to have a noticable effect.

OHbowler, you're a proshop operators dream. You mark 'em, I'll drill 'em
Thats what I do as well. My driller loves it and only charges me $25 to punch it.

Wow, maybe you should post it? I guess he took your first post the wrong way?
I wasn't sure how to take it either - some guys on here get upset when us "normal guys" try to learn to layout or drill and come back with comments like "all you garage drillers are a pro shop's wet dream - you screw it up and bring it to me to fix." I've had people say that to me before!
I look at it this way - if somebody wants to learn the skill, they have a few choices: a) get a job at a pro shop and learn from somebody that already knows the stuff, or b) buy the stuff and practice.
I've had a few ball drillers that will drill a ball any way you tell them. Their attitude is "it's your money. If you're not happy with the reaction, that's your fault. I just drilled it like you told me."
And, I've had a few pro shop guys that will ask why I want a certain layout. Then they'll tell whether they think it's a good idea or not. If push comes to shove, they will drill it my way because "the customer is always right," but they also give their expert opinion on what they believe is the correct layout and take the time to explain their reasons.

I did not take deadbaits comment as negative. Maybe he meant it to be? I don't know. I took it exactly how it was wrote. My driller prefers me to layout my own stuff and just let him punch it up. He understands that I know my game and what I want them to do, so it just makes it easier for both of us.
