Title: legal or not?
Post by: bpsbowler on January 25, 2008, 03:50:06 AM
I was at a local tournament and saw something interesting.  It was a few balls drilled for a no thumber, but it only had 2 finger holes, NO thumb and NO weight hole.  To my knowledge being a pro shop operator, this ball will be difficult to make it statically legal.  I was wondering because this person's ball driller was his own father, who operates a shop on the other side of the city.  I drill balls for a no thumber, and I always add his thumb to ensure that the ball will be legal.

To my knowledge, the center line of this ball will be from grip to grip, and the center of the grip will fall between the two grips.

Never tried to weigh a ball with only 2 fingers drilled in it, so please let me know if I'm just possibly picking at flaws of a fellow operator.

I could still be static legal! It could have low top weight or the finger holes could have removed weight depending on where the cg was placed and you'd still weigh the ball the same as checking the cg on an undrilled ball. If the cg was shifted up or towards the fingers, you will be removing that weight when drilling the finger holes! Hope this helps, Bruce

I believe it is legal.

As you said use the mid point of the two holes as the center of the grip.

Generally would need a low top weight ball so that it would not be over on top weight.

Statics must still conform as well as total weight no more than 16.00

For a ball with only finger holes (or no holes at all), you cannot have more than 1oz of difference between any two halves of the ball.
