Length drilling!
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:21:28 PM »
Our house is interesting....

The righties actually have a strike fiesta there from many angles compared to the lefties.

Maybe Billy Ray showed me why.  Both sides oiled early in morning on Slick Brunswick Anvilanes...40 feet and then bowled on all day!

But come evening they put on the garbage right before league a slick 16 foot short run.

The remnants then leave after warmups a shot with oil in the heads for both sides.  Bone dry midlanes for the lefty...push area in midlanes for righty and then sloppy loosed backends.

Surprisingly I have always perceived that the backends are earlier for the righty....(actual lane surface and friction creates this!!?)

As a result most of the righties have pin above!!!  They kill it...all shots that touch the head pin carry....from everywhere...

On the left...pin above drillings leave spectacular 7 pins...on the right pin aboves flush the pocket and hardly ever leave 10s!

Now my release is a strong side one...maybe my release stretches my breakpoint somewhat!  Maybe because of our lack of midlane oil and no push in that area we are forced to aim more away from the pocket...by the second game conditions start to even up(midlane oil is starting to show up(pushed down from heads) on the left for the proper(left) sider.

Anyway my musing on this topic is that recently Billy Ray gave me a drilling with pin UNDER bridge....This has completely changed the way my ball is looking at the pocket.  Flush!  I don't remember a 7 pin last night....

Your thoughts....is it the lane friction that is present at the righty breakpoint that is causing this necessity for difference in drilling or probably a stronger side roll that has always caused my ball to read late when using the mirror drillings the local gurus have been doling out ot righties for years in this house!

Gurus??

are you a strong side roll also...ie 50 degrees of axis rotation or more??

LL, just my opinion, I don't think it is your axis rotation. I think for the right side it is break point & entry angle that causes better carry. On your side more hold creates longer skid, along with your side turn, hence later stronger backend move resulting in pinging 7's. I think you would be better off with a 10 o'clock even with finger line to get slightly earlier roll with a hint less backend. This should change the entry angle slightly & not drive quite so hard on the backend.

I'm not a Guru, but my opinion anyway.

I wish I could use a pin under the figners on a symmetrical ball.  I can get away with it on asymmetrical equipment.  Gives a nice smooth back end.

Why can't you use a pin down ball in a symetrical core?
Track real high?

Saw...I think that is sort of what Billy Ray did for me.

a 10:00 or cg out which is 2:00 for us lefties with the weak down pin has given me smooth and flush!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS we really don't have hold area...we have wet...bone dry midlanes and then carrydown on left!  Brutal!!!  But I'm up over 60 pins a set my last two sets!!!!

Yes I track high.  Ball track is close to both fingers and thumb.  I can put the pin below the fingers on asymmetrical balls but not symmetrical.  Symmetrical causes the track to clip the fingers unless of course the pin is high in the safe zone.
