Leverage Drillings
« on: February 13, 2007, 07:18:55 PM »
Are there any significant differences between a Stacked Leverage, Label Leverage and Rev Leverage drillings? What are the advantages of each, and are there any preferences? Any help would be appreciated. PS. I'm drilling up an Epic Odyssey, and at first I was thinking aboput 6" pin, but my pro shop said "let's go crazy and drill something for heavy oil."

If you are a high tracker, I'd stay away from a label drilling (135° or so) on this ball - it has a strong mass bias, and placing the PSA into the track area can cause negative flare or other undesirable reactions.

I get more length from the label leverage drilling with a continuous arcing hook with minimal deflection.  I also have a Wrath XP drilled with a rev-leverage layout that hooks earlier and more violent than any of my other equipment, but is a great drilling for carrydown when nothing else will finish.  I hope this helps you decide, and good luck!!!

The lane conditions in my area generally tend to be on medium side, often tending to be shorter patterns with little carrydown. The problems I have are on heavy oil patterns, which I encounter either when travelling to an event or on early shifts here in the area. What I really need is something that will get through the flood and still finish hard (I'd like to try something that will flip hard and not quit). Many thanks Dizzy and Maine for your tips!

Rev leverage is a little different due to the weight hole being in the thumb quadrant on the V.A.L.

Leverage drillings are now more undesirable for ball reaction. With todays aggressive cores they cause most balls to overflare and decrease the hook potential and limit carry.

Thank you all for your input. YeahHossNV you are right! After the insanity of the moment passed, my pro shop man and I decided that leverage was not the answer, and instead go with something like a 4" - 5" pin, weight hole inside or on PAP and work with the surface. Sounds like this is more reasonable and is not quite so condition-specific. Thanks again to all.
