Long P2P + P3/P4
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:25:17 PM »
Like the title - why do folks do a long pin to pap to reduce the flare, then drill a P3/P4 hole bringing it right back up?

Higher RG plane (raises RG) and increases the differential.

I'm gonna throw a monkey wrench in here too . . the gradient line weight hole system is a crapshoot at best because it doesn't consider core shape . .

Unless you go with one of the recommended Radical drillings (other companies as well?) where they explicitly tell you diff and int diff after drilling (including balance holes) but yeah most of the time crap shoot.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

Lol and just hope one of the recommended layouts is going to work out for you, hopefully you have a "normal" PAP . . but I get your point.

Yeah and most of their preset layouts aren't for those of us with high axis tilt either (angle totals <70 total nope) which is why was ecstatic found a layout on The Fix I match up with fairly well.

Based on the OPs question, I’m assuming sym cores, since long p2p for less flare only applies to syms.

If the core is symmetrical, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much of a crapshoot.

Yes sorry this would focus on symmetrics in my question.

Your response intrigues me Luke. Any more light you could shed on improving x-hole placement?

My original thoughts were " oh they're just adjusting for static weights" I'm no ball driller, but I'm thinking there's more reasoning than static weights for the low holes on long pin to paps.

gradient line system is just an educated best guess until someone comes up with something better..  Pap, core shape, spans and more make it impossible for a system to be anything other than a best guess.

But, it just CANT be speculation and best guess stuff.

Mo told us he and his cad wielding engineer buddies had figured it all out scientifically.

It’s just gotta be true because, well, SCIENCE!
