Layout/dual angle help
« on: October 28, 2015, 09:37:55 PM »
Alright Dual Angle guys, I need some help. Looking for a good dual angle layout to put on a 900 Global Black Ops. I've tried a few different systems, including the dual angle system, to lay asymmetrical stuff out in the past, and have found very little success. The reaction never seems to be what the layout says it should have been. It's gotten frustrating enough that I just avoid asymmetrical stuff...that's not cool.

So, if someone could help, I'd appreciate it. Looking for a different perspective than my own. I shoot any of my "new" ideas down, so maybe coming from somewhere else will help lol.

Pap: 4 3/4 right, 1/2 up.
Axis Tilt: 10 degrees.
Axis Rotation: 70 degrees.
Speed: 16-16.5 on the monitor.
Revs: 375-400.

I typically bowl on a 41' heavy volume ths, on brunswick anvilane's. As for reaction I'm looking for, I want what everyone wants lol, decent mid lane read, hard arcing backend. Let's hear some thoughts guys. I appreciate it!

Oh, and before the obligatory, "go see your PSO" comments, I'm the PSO lol. I have no issue using the dual angle or the buffer system for customers, and stuff consistently rolls as the layouts would suggest. For myself though...it never seems quite right. Just looking for a new perspective. Thanks again.

I have also struggled with Asyms  every time I went with the "recommendation"

tilt...........25 degrees
rotation....60 rotation
Speed 15.5-16.5 on monitor
Revs 350

Recommended would be:
5+ pin to pap to burn tilt
Total angles sum 100
ratio:1:1.5

I drilled a few 40x5x60....never matched up for me on either sport or THS.....Then I played around a bit

I found that 40x4x60 was a good combination on THS....If I went with a 5+ pin to pap the ball rolled forward to quick on THS for me and was dead....The 40 helped it read and the 60 kept me from being too snappy even with a pin to pap that didnt burn tilt fast....

On heavier oil I found that 50x5.5x40 was good, the ball burning off my tilt helped it slow down, 50 read the lane fine with and then the 40 helped me turn the corner and not labor...

As of today I do not have an asym in my possession....I jst sold both I had because im not seeing the oil I need for them this season.....But the Black Ops has me curious...let me know how you like it....

what about a 90 to 105 x 4 x 45?  hard arc, easy midlane read... with it being a black ops it could be your benchmark ball w/ that layout..

I don't know what you've tried, so it's hard to say what might be different.

But I can say that for me, I disliked the majority of my recommended layouts too. Our stats are not all that different; I have higher speed and revs, but we are matched the same way.

After a lot of trial and error, I found that the recommended layouts usually had way too large of a drill angle for me and too short of a pin. I was always given something like 70 degrees with a 3 inch pin and the ball was simply retaining tilt too long. Instead, I have found great success with a 50x5x40 Mastermind and a 55x5x70 Hyper Cell Skid. I've had both balls for nearly an entire year (rare for me) and they are by far the two most used pieces in my bag.

The most ridiculous ball I ever had was a Radical Reax v1 drilled 35x4x30. That ball was the strongest I've ever owned. I needed some long/heavy or some serious carry down to even make it usable, but it was a great ball when I needed it.

Long story short, try forcing the ball to stand up with a lower drill angle and longer pin.

Have you tried any longer pin to pap layouts yet to burn the rotation? I'm also higher rotation, low tilt and love the 50/5/40 layout on my Black Ops. You will most likely want to add surface because the ball can be quite sharp on fresh oil. It is one of the best balls I've had, and that's saying a lot if you knew how many balls I buy haha.

Black ops... Ah, a weight block after my own heart.

On that weight block, I like 45*5*65 and add surface. An extra hole will really calm down the move. But especially with the Ops being 1500 polished, get rid of that surface asap. Try 2000 first and go from there.

I've tried the typical, 45x4x45, and I've used some pin down layouts that were around 40x4 1/2x70. I tended to have more success with the pin down, higher val angle layouts, but more success than none still leaves a lot to be desired lol.

I've never tried a longer pin to pap distance than about 4 1/2, but it makes sense that I should. With my higher rotation maybe that'll give me the earlier roll thatll bring with it less over/under, and generally a more consistent roll. Maybe I'll try something like 65-70x5x40 or so. I really want to like this ball lol.

That 70/5/40 ish will be close to a control drill for you in my opinion and may not be enough on a heavy fresh shot. Consider the 50/5/40 with options of p3 and/or surface

So I went with 50x5 1/4x40 and got to throw it tonight for league. Had I not known what ball I was throwing, I would have guessed it was symmetrical. NONE of the issues I typically have with asymmetricals were there. Either that's a testament to the layout, the ball, or a combination of both. Honestly, I was shocked by this ball's reaction. It's impressive. Great recovery, crazy drive. I love it. I might knock the polish off, to avoid leaving the 9 pins that I did, but what a ball.

Thanks for the help guys. Very rarely do I do ball videos, or even reviews, but I'll probably be doing one of each for this one. Great ball. As a bonus, even though it's all black, I've never seen all black look as good as this does. Doesn't hurt lol.

Glad to hear!!! Please link the vids here when you get them up. I've also had great looks with that layout on Paradox, Nirvana, and if you want a little more hook you can try 50/4/40.
