I do not have one, but by looking at a picture of it in the Master catalog, I think that I know how to use it.
Place the gauge over the hole to be measured, and let the plastic fins rest on the ball as the plum is set into the hole. When the plum sits in the hole, it should indicate the pitch, whether it be forward, reverse, or lateral in or out.

The rod drops all the way down to the bottom of the hole and the the cone centers in the top. I use one and they are good for thumbs and fingers with grips. The only issue is small diameter fingers holes or shallow fingers holes.

They also dont work for milled oval holes as the bottom of the hole is flattened out and the rod cant line up correctly.. Great tool otherwise.
