Drill Finger hole on pin?
« on: January 23, 2009, 07:56:38 AM »
I have always heard that you should avoid hitting the pin when drilling the finger holes. Why is this? Yes I did do a search and could not find anything that pertains to this. Maybe it's a stupid question, but I just want to know what the deal is?

If you drill too close to the pin, you make nick it farther down in the finger hole. Then the pin may crack and can fall out, leaving an extra hole in the ball. Nothing wrong with drilling the pin completely out though,(as in "pin-in-the finger")
Some Mfg's will not warranty a ball that is drilled closer than 1/4".. Bruns reccommends 1".

The reason is that the pin will come out of the ball many occasions if you only partially drill in to it. It is ok to do if you drill out the whole pin such as in the finger hole

Listen to Bill just drill it all the way out, then it will not crack out.
