Michigan Bits
« on: February 21, 2012, 05:05:50 AM »
Does anyone one have experience with Michigan drill bits (company, not the state)?

After watching poor shape used bits sell on eBay for nearly the cost of new bits, I'm considering just buying a new set.

Thanks,

Scott

You may want to take a look at KMT Slug bits.  They require less effort than standard bits and leave you with a smoother hole, with no drift.  They're being distributed by Jayhawk.

Placed an order for several new bits through opentip.com as they had really great prices.  Upon receiving the bits, found that 1/2 of the order was sent as tapered bits packaged in straight shank tubes.  They must be a little longer as they barely fit in the tubes.  Any way, I messaged the customer service and was told they would have to check with their warehouse.   Several days go by and I message again.  I'm told the warehouse is busy, but they would try again.  A few more days went by, so this time I called customer service.  Not surprising, I was connected to someone who barely speaks English.  Was told that my case was assigned to another customer service agent, and they couldn't help... But would forward my message.  What a disaster....

So FYI, anyone thinking about ordering through opentip may want to reconsider.  I have not had a chance to use the bits yet as only a few  fit my press.... Hmmm

Why waste time and money.  Buy from Innovative or Jayhawk and be done with it.
When you buy cheap bits, they do not last long and they do not re-sharpen well.    Innovative or Jayhawk bits are expensive but they last many many years, and multiple re-sharpens.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to convince the wife on a $500 set of bits.  I just wanted something to get me started, and down the road may consider upgrading.  Not sure on the quality anyway... The distributor seems to be off their game though.
