Beveling your thumbhole
« on: March 13, 2005, 02:39:52 PM »
Other than a bevel knife, is there anything else needed?

Are there any do's or dont's when beveling your thumbhole?

thank you

Yeah, don't do it yourself if you've never done it.

You'll make the knife chatter and it'll be worse than what you started with.

I taught myself how to do it... its really not that hard to do as long as you've seen someone else do it. I like a specifit amount of bevel, as I get pain in the front of my thumb, and the extra bevel I give myself is all on feel, so I HAVE to do it myself.

I use a small piece of 150 grit sandpaper on my finger.  I can have mine just right in a couple minutes.

I learned  to do it myself, it's not that hard. Just remember....You can always take more out, but never put back in...don't take to much at a time...slowly..you'll get the hang of it and know what pressure/side to do what you are wanting. I use a bevel sander, but fine touch with sandpaper (100 grit) with my finger to make the correct size.

my 2 cents are up
