Drill pattern for a suitcase type release?
« on: February 02, 2004, 09:08:24 PM »
I just bought a new storm super charge and i would like to know what drill pattern you guys would reccomend for a suitcase style release.I have above average speed and below average revs.I bowl on medium oil conditions mostly.I would like a drilling that would produce a nice continuos arc if possible.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My driller will usually put the pin left of the thumb for a suit case release, and the CG just all depends...

Absolutely.  Your axis point is the point equidistant from your track (or your first ring of oil, closest to thumb and furthest away from fingers).  For right handers its located on the right side of the ball (opposite for lefties).  The major determining factor of all of the layouts & various reactions is the surface of the ball.  Assuming you are leaving it in box finish, the second most important factor in determining reaction is based on locating the pin relative to the axis point.  In general, placing the pin somewhere between 2.5" and 4.5" (with roughly 3.5" being the strongest) from your axis point will position the core of the ball in such a way to give the largest flare potential, or greatest hooking potential for the ball.

For a bowler with higher speed and lower revs, I would agree with the early rolling, arc-type of layout (check the drill sheet provided with the ball).
Good Luck!
