mission 250k with cg above the pin...how do i drill it?
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:36:38 AM »
My friend got a 250k from ebay and the cg is above the pin and the mb is above the ebonite logo.  It is an x out.  It has 1 3/4 ounce top weight.  He wants to drill it pin under..strong mb.  My question is do I just ignore the cg mark an just drill the fingers deep to take out the finger weight and just go with it? Looking for some advice.  Hopefully you can see what I mean below.  just looking for advice.

Thanx guys

Drilling it pin under should be no problem. Just put the pin and mb where you want it. With only 1.75oz. topweight, most of the fingerweight will be taken out by normal finger drilling. If necessary, a small, shallow weight hole drilled over the fingers would probably be better than drilling the fingers deep unless you are looking to lower the as-drilled RG.

Hope this helps,

Joe

As Cobalt Bomb said above it should be no problem due to the low top weight. You might want to scale the ball and confirm that the marking is the actual cg before drilling

As the guys have said, it should be "doable" and make it come out. However, there may be another option that you might want to check into.

A few ears back, Ebonite had, what was termed at the time, "bombs away" technology. It was where the marked MB was not in todays "normal" spot, but was actually 180 degrees around the ball. A company that has used this most recently is Visionary. It was called "Anti Mass Bias" by them, thus the series of balls using the AMB as part of their name.

With the ball you have pictued here, it may be possible to utilize that type of drilling tech to get you the results you desire. To consider it, draw a line from the currently marked MB 13 1/2 inches directly through the pin, and mark that spot. Then lay the ball out using your new mark as a "virtual" MB.  This should leave the currently marked MB far above and to the left of the bridge, the pin below the bridge, and the currently marked CG in a spot easily managed with a weight hole.

Not saying it would work, but it might be an option to consider.
