Misunderstanding
« on: May 03, 2004, 08:46:44 PM »
I dropped off two executioners to my driller the other week.
A charcoal that is drilled label leverage to get refinished,
and a used purple ice to get pluged and drilled.

I asked my driller to drill the purple Ice label leverage,
like the charcoal.  I got it back and the pin looked to be really close to
my PAP, the pins are about the same on both balls so the drillings should
look similar.

I think he must have had axis on the brain, and took what I said as label axis.
Is there such a drilling?  If not what effect does putting the pin on the pap
cg in the center of the grip have.

----o---o---
--------------p
------cg------

-----o-------

PAP is 6 rt 7/8 up.
I am just curious, the ball actually workes good.  I wanted the purple ice
to be a control ball and it looks like that it what it is.  I just wanted
some input before I drll my NIB purple ice.

Thanks

with that layout the ball should hook early.

Update:

I stopped by the proshop yesterday,
and talked with him, and he said it was label leverage.  We got to looking
a little, and the pins were just put in different spots.  After that discussion
I remebered reading a post on here that talked about there being 3 pieces of info needed to drill a ball Pin to PAP distance, CG/MB location, and the piece
that I have been forgetting is the coodinates of the pin based on the grip
center.

I have been telling him label leverage and he has been using his judgement
on where to put the pin based on the type of ball it is.

That's why he's my driller

BTW I love the way the ball reacted so there was no harm no foul.

Uh, well, unless the pin is 3 3/8" away from your PAP, then it's not leverage, just label.  Unless it actually is, but I couldn't tell without a pic.  Oh well.

But hey, who cares, as long as it works and is what you want?

Agreed, unless the pin is 3 3/8 from your PAP then it is not a leverage drilling. HOWEVER, with the PIN on your PAP it is a very controlled drilling.

Eric,
I know the pictures on here are tough to tell, but with 6"over, I doubt that pin is on your pap? no ?

Yeah I thought about that myself

Like I said in the update, I Ithink the ball
was laid out label leverage, but I just didn't
give him the coordinates of the location of the pin,
so he used his judgement based on the ball, and what he
knows about the way I bowl.

Jeff, you bring up a great point. I thought the same thing when I saw it, but the picture thing here is bad....

Eric,
What you could have, is the pin in a higher or lower position and it still be leverage. That would certainly make the layout look different.

Yes you are correct,

The pin on the purple ice is lower.  If you made a 3 pt line
the line would go through the CG, pin and PAP or very close.
The Charcoal is higher, up by the fingers.
