Layout for Apex Obsession?
« on: October 30, 2004, 05:12:23 AM »
I just bought one of these off Ebay for use on heavy oil and I'm looking for some opinions on how I should have it laid out. The lanes where I bowl league are quite oily except way outside (five and out) where they are very dry. I've been playing close to the dry boards but I'd like to move in a little. You also don't get much backend unless you start it outside, where it will hook early, or start it in and throw it out in which case you will get over/under reaction.
I throw no thumb but prefer balls WITH a thumbhole, have a little above average speed (15.5 to 17 MPH Qubica, actual speed would be higher), and plenty of revs.
I don't generate excessive side roll or turn the ball early like many no-thumbers do. My PAP is about 5 1/4" and 1/4" up but I haven't checked it since I went thumbless. It's probably the same.
I've heard that since this is a strong ball and I have strong roll I should probably drill it weak so it doesn't burn up early. I've heard it may burn up early or not work past one game even on heavy oil if it is drilled too strong.

Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
sprocket

I'm thinking drilling #3.
I'm afraid anything that promotes early roll may hook too soon especially as the lanes dry out given my high rpms.  It's not unusual for me to have adjusted 6 to 8 boards left with my feet by the end of the third game. Last week I bowled 10 practice games after league and in the tenth game was playing a fallback shot between the 4th and 5th arrows without much backend using a Reaction Arc (I've had this ball redrilled twice and it doesn't carry well at all during league).  Tamer stuff from further right was either hooking early or not getting through the carry down.

Any opinions?
