need help drilling an oiler
« on: June 01, 2009, 08:12:06 AM »
I bought an epic quest and have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to drill it. I thought about RICO at first but was afraid of an early burn up. I was more so leaning towards a dual angle layout or a layout with the pin a little high of the ring and kick the mb out to about 3 1/2" from my pap. Any suggestions would be very well appreciated.

My updated stats:
16.5 mph
325 rpm
Pap 5 1/2 by 0
Medium to high tracker

I drilled mine with a simple pin up 4 x 4 and love the reaction.

Inverted,

Point well taken, however, 3 3/8 is too much for me especially with that large core. I tried a double thumb layout in an uprising and it was 20 ft and 10 pin. At 4000 it was 30 ft and 6 pin that was on almost any condition.

"I thought about RICO at first but was afraid of an early burn up."

If you are bowling on a heavy flat pattern, there's no way it's going to burn up.Go ahead and drill it RICO.You'll be glad you did.
The more I practice,the luckier I get.

I think I like something about like this idea the best.  4X4 with pin up a little, big hole shallow if needed, make the ball early, strong, smooth.

Remember, Rico is gonna put the pin 5 1/2 from your PAP, that can be a long way for a heavy oil ball.  Would probably be good on a long, flat pattern, but not so much the THS.

You could try something like a 5 x 4 1/2 pin under with a flair increasing hole in the thumb area? I am thinking of doing this to my storm vertigo.
